NEW GOAL: LIVE RECORDING

There's a new donations goal up: $1800.

Here's what it's for; check my math:

$400 - recording engineer for one day (Jim Dineen)
$300 - rented piano/delivery/tuning
$300 - upgrade sound system (microphones, mixing console, etc)
$400 - recording gear (splitter, microphones, etc)
$400 - mix engineer and his facility for one day

This is a HIGH estimate. We may not need to upgrade the sound system where we're recording $300 worth, for instance. The piano price is based on Nashville numbers since we can't be certain where we'll do this recording yet (though we're hoping for Knoxville). We're trying to beg and borrow microphones and other gear as well, so the cost may be lower than $1800 in the end.

It is also just as possible that the cost could be higher. Depending on where we end up recording we may need to do more upgrading to that venue's sound system and rent more gear, and piano's could rent for more in that city. Depending on how things sound in the end we may need to master the recording. And that's hundreds as well.

So, we've created our best estimate - and estimated high - based on what we know today. Music making isn't science I guess, much to my former-accountant wife's chagrin. (Did I just use "chagrin"?)

I'll keep you posted as things develop: city, date, songs etc. Thank you again to all who've given. I have an amazing number of friends out there. Thank you for being so generous.

-Shaun

Sweet. If there's anything we can help you with like getting instruments or something like that let us know.

PS: how do you feel about Martin Guitars?

Tuba? Anybody got a tuba?

Not so keen on Martins. Depends on the model though. I like darker sounding guitars myself. Don't have one. But like 'em.

I plan on hitting up Mr.Osenga for a guitar. Shhh, don't tell him yet. I have to butter him up a while first.

Sounds like a deal. How much to press the cd once it's done, including packaging? Just curious. How many would you make initially?

I have no idea. I'm working on that. I sold 4000 ish my first week on the road with White Flag including pre-orders. Not sure all those folks would want this live project since live sells much much worse than studio does. Good question. How many to make?

Ohhh good question. Well whatever we do looks like I'm gonna pull the paint pens back out. Although, I don't think mom would be to happy about me writing Shaun Groves blah blah blah all over her Tarus.
But considering how...well(?)ya did last year with White Flag and considering that this is(?) could be(?) your last album (will it be? don't think you ever established that it would or wouldn't be. I would like to know now so I can have a pitty party for myself at not getting to hear great music anymore. it'd be like Rich Mullins and Ketih Green dying on the same day)ya may want to put out something in the 50,000's or ya know more I just threw that figure out because it was the quickes thing to come to mind.
What're we gonna call this new album?
Is it gonna be something as boring as...Shaun Groves live in Concert or we gonna spice it up...I'm still working with a spicy title. Maybe something to do with soft rock, huge soft rock stars, and being live?
One more thing will ya please please please sing the Texas song!!! PUUULEASEEEEE?!*pouty lip, teary puppy dog eyes, runny nose*

WHat do you guys think White Flag has sold? How about Twilight and Invitation to Eavesdrop?

I'm fascinated and flattered by some folks' perception of my popularity. Maybe friends just want to think the best of each other.

Well you didn't exactly give us that much intel. I mean really throw us a bone. I know that Twilight didn't do as well as it should have (even thought it's up there with White Flag tied for #1 on my list not so crazy about the first album, sorry)
I wasn't trying to be nice I was just guessing. I actually would have to guess that you sold in all world wide 25,000 for White Flag. Twilight maybe 12,000? And also looks can be deciving I mean have you looked at the map of who's on lately? Shlog is huge world wide dude. You give us some figures and let's play around with it. If White Flag put out 25,000 and Twilight put out 12,000 this being a live album I'd put out 15,000 albums. That's just me I'm not saying any of this to be nice I'm just saying. And think positive!!

I"m thinking positive. I have a projected sales number based on past history but I'm not sharing.

Interesting guesses on sales. I'll give you this intel. Twilight sold less than a 1/4 of Invitation to Eavesdrop (power of radio play). White Flag sold just over half of what Twilight did.

Sounds like one of those horrid SAT math problems doesn't it?

I was curious what you, a fan/friend for a long time, thought.

*gasp* You said that horrible word!! the S..... A..... T.

*runs and hides under bed*

But you're still selling those records right? So whether I'm wrong or not (which I guessing I am) you will eventually reach those numbers one day if you haven't passed them already. heehee

Anyway, we'll...you'll figure something out. Keep the positive thoughts rolling!!
