FROM THE ROAD: NEWBERG, OR #2

After blogging this morning Brian and I went back to our on-campus housing, took naps (well, I did while Brian worked) and then ventured out in search of anything to fill the hours until this evening's show. We're not used to sight-seeing and not at all good at it. We usually fly in, do a gig and fly out with no time for zig zagging through a new town looking for stuff to do. We were so clueless about how to fill our day that we wound up merely seeking a Starbucks and learned the only one in town was inside a Fred Myer - a stand alone department store/grocery store hybrid, the Northwestern love child of Target and Kroger.

Once inside the megastore We couldn't find the Starbucks within it, somewhere behind rows of belts and skim milk. We wandered aimlessly inside Stuffmart until we realized something. We'd been here in this department store before, this very one, two years ago on a tour. I'd forgotten to pack socks on a gig back then so Brian and I made an emergency sock expedition in Newberg and found the best socks either of us had ever owned in the process. Today we sought out these plush firm-fitting foot coverings once again, suddenly aware of how badly outfitted in inferior footware our feet had become since last visitng Newberg.

Unable to find the greatest socks in the world a second time, Brian stood by a rounder and weighed whether or not to invest instead in a set of underwear - something that would make him feel...super.

We ran out of time before Brian could make such an important buying decision and it was off to soundcheck, then dinner...

...and then a great night playing for and hanging out with men and women who love college students for a living. It was a great day, though I still wish we'd found those socks. Maybe next time Oregon.

Alright, it's off to bed for me. I'm up at 5:30 in the morning (technically THIS morning) heading home. Sometimes I miss college. At least the sleeping part.

I hadn't heard of this Fred Meyer store before. Have you ever been to a Meijer? It's more of a midwest thing. Quite a fun place methinks...of couse, I work there, so I should say that. You should check 'em out if you're ever up around this way.
